I’m really trying to be more of a fan of Dario Argento. I want to go through and see all of his most popular movies, especially after seeing Suspiria last year and having it be one of my favorite movies of the year. And so this is the next movie that came up on my list of movies to see.
Now here’s the trick… I didn’t know this, but this movie is a de-facto sequel to Suspiria. Apparently they are part of a trilogy of movies called The Three Mothers Trilogy. Apparently, it is a trilogy of movies about ancient evil witches that are completely ape-shit crazy and love killing people in completely bonkers ways.
I think it’s super interesting that there aren’t a ton of hints that this is the case though. The movies don’t expressly make it clear that one is to follow the other or that they are even part of the same story line. It definitely is the case that these movies can live independently of one another, but it’s interesting that there is a plot that is common to them.
The first Witch, the one from Suspiria, is named The Mother of Sights. She’s the oldest and wisest. She is batshit crazy. She kills the fuck out of a ton of people. It’s awesome.
This movie’s witch is called The Mother of Darkness. That is a valid name for her. She is completely crazy. She loves killing the crap out of people. Here’s another thing… by the end of this movie, I had forgotten that throughout the movie it said that we were looking for one of the Three Mothers. I was sure the bad guy was some… GUY. But it wasn’t.
Oh, you know what, the first part of this movie is completely bonkers scary. WHY THE HELL DOES THAT GIRL JUMP DOWN INTO THAT WATER!?!?! Thats such a crazy decision! I mean… nothing ends up happening, but still, that shit is bonkers.
Oh, and the end of the movie is completely ape-shit bonkers. The movie is all “here’s crazy stuff. and then there’s THIS!!!! ITS CRAZY!” Why did that crazy thing happen at the end?

This image scares me right now and its just a lady that woke up from a nap.
So, here’s my current Dario Argento list:
2. Inferno
1. Suspiria
Though I really liked this movie, Suspiria was better. I hope to see something that stylized and bonkers again sometime soon.
