What Is The Movie Fight?

Hello everyone.

Welcome back if you’ve been here before. Welcome now if this is your first time here. I wanted to quickly say hello and describe what my plans are for the new year with regards to all of my movie watching and movie watching friends…

So, to start at the beginning… the movie fight USED to be this: http://themoviefight.wordpress.com/about/ The problem is doing all of that, that I promised on that page, is WAY too cumbersome and time consuming. I loved every second of it, but it never worked quite right and I never had enough time to do it. So, SCRAP that idea. Lets try this a little differently. The new movie fight is going to include the following:

1. A review of every movie I watch this year. This is my new years resolution and I intend to follow through. Its hard to guess how many movies I actually watched last year, but there were tons of them. This promise includes movies I see in new release, movies i see for the first time, and movies I watch in a half-drunk, half-hungover state on a Sunday early afternoon. I have no promises as to the lengths of these posts, but my plans are for them to include the following:
a) If its a new release, a valiant attempt to inform you as to if you should spend your money going to see this film,
b) random musing about what I witnessed during said movie (especially if i’ve seen said movie before, these musings will be especially random), and
c) a list (or two) that have some relevance to the movie, in the tradition of what The Movie Fight used to be. It could be an actor, it could be the director, it could be movies that start with Q that I can think of off the top of my head.

2. There will still be some relevant movie fighting, but probably not in the overwhelming comprehensive manner i was going about it before. We’ll do some Academy Award talks, maybe some other fights when some themes come to mind, but the plan is that, if I develop a new tournament… I’m going to play it out myself, and then all of you can come and argue with me about it til your fingers are blue and you’re head is spinning. This leaves me plenty of fun tournaments to do without the overwhelming work that goes into building and keeping track of dozens of polls. No, uh uh. Not doing it anymore. 3. More silliness. With the more time on my hands thing, and the return of actual thought coming from me, I’m assuming I’ll have more time to be goofy in my posts. This leads to more fun for you. Again, less polls for you to mindlessly click, but more time for me to be a human being with needs outside of movie discussions.

4. Occasionally news updates. I love trailers and movie rumors almost as much as I love movies, so I might start trying to include this in the movie fight. It might be rare to start, it might just be links to my favorite movie news sights (see slashfilm, Iwatchstuff), but thats all i have to offer for now as I am not a hollywood insider, yet.

OK, to wrap up, this blog is going from a 5 posts a day thing, to a no posts for a year and a half thing, to a whenever I damn well feel like it thing. My guess is 3-5 posts a week. More often on the weekends likely. Hopefully, you’ll stop by and comment, to commemorate the spirit that once was the movie fight. But for now, enjoy what this beast has become.

WHAT THE MOVIE FIGHT USED TO BE (and still is in my heart)

The Movie Fight is the brain child of Detroit native mathematician Travis Stowe-Schnell.  The Movie Fight is a movie review blog that is completely unique.  While other blogs are busy giving news, reviews and opinions, The Movie Fight is revolutionizing how we think of Movie Reviews.

Have you ever seen a hilarious comedy and gave it two thumbs up or ten out of ten stars?  Later did you give your favorite drama, award winning film the same rating?  Did you feel guilty?  Do they really belong on the same level?  Aren’t they both great, but for siginifcantly different reasons?

Have you ever seen one of those Best Movie Moment lists/countdowns in Rolling Stone or on VH1?  As you watched, did you take issue that the movie you thought should be number 1 was lower on the list than a few movies that you didn’t even think fit the criteria?  What did you do about it?  Was there anything that could be done?

The movie fight is the definitive answer to both of these dilemas.  While other movie blogs fall into the traps of the past, movie fight pits the movies against one another, creating lists of movies by genre, keyword, actor, director, what ever your mind can imagine.  There is no fight that is too insignifant or too big for the movie fight.  We, together, will find out what the best and worst movie in every category under the sun.
