Hey all. So, I guess I’m a complete idiot. I don’t know why I did it, but I accidentally put Driving Miss Daisy in the fight against Braveheart. This is essentially a useless fight because it was Forrest Gump that had advanced last round, not Driving Miss Daisy. So, we are kind of in a tight spot. We need to get Braveheart v Forrest Gump voted upon as quickly as we can. Also, it will have to be done quickly, so I am going to leave it up long enough for 10 votes to happen and if i get that many votes, We can pull it down before the usual 4 day waiting period.

Please help me out on this one. Stop by and vote, make sure some people you know come by and vote. Sorry about this one, but we should be able to finish this fight and move on efficiently soon enough…

thanks for the votes everyone. Lets get the 5th round of this tournament underway!!!

So, in day 1 we got some work done.  Rankings were made and they were fairly close.  But there was a tie.  Then, in day 2, the fights did magnificantly, solidifying all of the rankings, except for one pesky problem: the tie!  The tie must redone!  We need to decide which movie belongs in second place.  So for the sake of my sanity and for the sake of something to do, I ask you to vote on this fight again.  And please, don’t make it a tie again!

The Results are in:  thanks a lot.  This fight being finished means that this poll is finished!

ok, here are the results:

Milk 2 1 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Hey Folks. Thanks for all of your votes and it looks fairly likely that we will have all of these fights over with by the time the academy awards occurs in mid february. That being said, you guys and gals did a great job on the Best Picture fights from last week, but there is always room for more. Here is a link to the rankings as they are now: 81st Academy Awards

Here are the results that you created in the last set of polls:

The Reader 1 4 Frost/Nixon
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 3 6 Milk
The Reader 1 6 Slumdog Millionaire
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 2 6 Slumdog Millionaire
Frost/Nixon 3 5 Milk

Ok, thanks to those results, we still have a few questions left that need to be answered:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 3 0 The Reader
Frost/Nixon 1 2 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Slumdog Millionaire 2 1 Milk

Hey everyone.  Thanks so much for all of your votes in the Christopher Nolan Fight.  We did well to identify the correct rankings of those films (I assume it’s correct because no one has said anything about it).

So, lets get started on doing this once again then.  This time, lets finish off a slightly larger one, the David Bowie Fight.  There have already been a few fights around there, but I think we can get yourself closer to a similar final standings for these 9 movies.  Hell, if this goes well, we can get to work on a larger actor, like finishing up John Cusack… patience…

In the meantime, here are four fights, all about David Bowie:

Here are the results: check the rankings to see what these results caused!

Labyrinth 5 1 The Man Who Fell to Earth
The Prestige 3 4 Zoolander
The Hunger 3 0 Arthur and the Invisibles
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me 3 2 The Last Temptation of Christ

I thought it might be interesting for us to get in to the job of judging video game movies.  For the most part, well, they suck.  Lots of em suck a lot.  But occationally, there is a success.  I think that one of the important things to keep in mind with regards to this ranking is the transition from the game itself.  These movies aren’t judged based solely upon their content, but also how well they translate the story of the game, the tone and fun involved and the translation for a more general audience.  That being said, the movie can’t stink for the sake of staying true to the game.

It’s your job to decide which fights we will have with regards to these rankings.  See something that you feel is out of place.  Simply add a comment to the end of this post and your voice will be heard!

So remember, vote for the best VIDEO GAME movie, not the best movie (though i think in this case, they will rarely be different).  Ok, that note being added, I present the video game movie rankings:

Hey buddies.  Well in the first round of the 2008 Directors fight, we had some interesting results.  A tie, a three win movie, and some opportunities for additional fights.  Its an interesting dilemma I put myself in with ties.  Usually I try to get someone to break the tie so I dont have to think, but screw that.  If you can’t decide this time, we’ll just decide at some other time.  Maybe, it wont even be necessary (though that seems unlikely and technically illogical).  Anyway, thanks to that first set of fights,  I have a few more for you now:

Results are in. Sorry for being a little late, but it gave you more time to vote. So the results will be posted here. You can see what the rankings are here! In the meantime, here’s your rankings.

Slumdog Millionaire 3 2 Frost/Nixon
The Reader 1 3 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 3 2 Milk
Milk 2 3 The Reader

Hello everyone. Thank you so much for all of your votes and I’m very happy to announce that thanks to your votes, we have a complete and undeniable ranking of every Christopher Nolan movie. You did great work and I’m proud to present the rankings and all of the results here.

Now you may be saying to yourself “How can he say these are the definitive rankings? I disagree with these rankings! Something on this list is out of place!” Well, you have the right to your opinion and for it to be heard. Right now, thanks to the polls we’ve already done, If a movie is ahead of another, there is a logical reason, likely a direct victory. That being said, I’m not afraid to give a rematch to any movie, but you’d better get out there and lobby for your movie when you can. Just drop a comment on this post and your voice will be heard.

Til then, here are the final rankings for Christopher Nolan Movies:

Rank   Name Wins Losses Win % Vdiff MF#
1   The Dark Knight 3 0 100% 15 13.5

4   Batman Begins 1 2 33% -2 7.2

Day 2 of Round 4 of the 1st Tournament of 2009. You have 4 more polls that you can vote on in this round and they are all here. Therefore, there are two posts, 8 fights for you to vote on in this round. Your votes are needed and I know you’ve seen these movies. Remember when we watched them together last summer?

OK, so, just as a refresher, here is the tournament as it stands now: The Best Picture Tournament! And… as you demanded… here are the last four fights:

Braveheart 2 8 Forrest Gump
Schindler’s List 4 3 Unforgiven
The French Connection 4 5 Silence of the Lambs
It Happened One Night 1 4 Lawrence of Arabia
Annie Hall 3 4 The Apartment

Frost/Nixon 1 8 Milk
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 4 3 Frost/Nixon
Milk 8 1 The Visitor
The Wrestler 7 0 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Well folks, its time for some more Best Actor Polls. You all did an excellent job voting in the first group, but you made one mistake… There was a TIE! Not sure yet if a rematch will be in order, but for now, we’ve got a few more fights for you that might just bring us to the final standings.

Here are the current rankings (and the rankings in the other groups regarding the 81st Academy Awards):

Rank Name Wins Losses Win % Vdiff MF#
1 The Wrestler (Mickey Rourke) 3 0 100% 18 4.8
2 Milk (Sean Penn) 2 1 67% 8 1.8
3 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) 2 1 67% -1 0.9
4 Frost/Nixon (Frank Langella) 1 3 25% -9 -2.9
5 The Visitor (Richard Jenkins) 0 3 0% -16 -4.6

The results of these fights were as follows:

Welcome back to the Best Picture Tournament. Starting today, we are dealing with Round 4: THE SWEET SIXTEEN! You need to vote now and vote often. We really need to get as many people to vote now because these are the fights that really matter. Your job in addition to voting is to get one additional person to show up and vote. There are only two days worth of fights, so you better get your votes in while you can. OK, enough ranting and marketing, time for some polls:

Results are in (though with some controversy!). I accidentally made one fight Braveheart v Driving Miss Daisy, when it should have been Braveheart v Forrest Gump. Your chance to vote in that fight, to fix this issue, is here. That being said, the fight between Braveheart and Driving Miss Daisy wont go without use. Its a win for Braveheart and a loss for Driving Miss Daisy, so that will be taken into account in the long run, you’ll see. Anyway, here are your results:

The Godfather 8 3 No Country for Old Men
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King 4 5 Casablanca
The Godfather: Part II 6 3 American Beauty
Braveheart 6 2 Driving Miss Daisy

Hey, welcome back everyone.  Well, you’ve done a great job putting the ladies into the correct order, but I’d love to get this solidified.  We seem to know who’s at the top and the bottom, but lets solidify for good.  Two more polls today should do the trick (but I’m giving you 4!) and then we can comfortably give the awards:

OH and make sure you check out the current rankings here

Results are IN! Thanks to these results, as I thought, these rankings have been finalized!

The Reader 6 2 Rachel Getting Married
Rachel Getting Married 6 1 Frozen River
Changeling 4 3 Frozen River
Doubt 6 1 The Reader

Hey Folks,

Ok, today you get to the meat.  You get to start deciding the best picture at the 2009 Academy Awards.  Well, not really, I mean, you have nothing to do with it, but it would be nice to see if the Academy is following the general public’s opinion (though i guess that would make it the people’s choice awards).  Anyway, here are the five finalists and their five initial fights:

The results are in. We have the fights here:

The Reader 1 4 Frost/Nixon
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 3 6 Milk
The Reader 1 6 Slumdog Millionaire
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 2 6 Slumdog Millionaire
Frost/Nixon 3 5 Milk

OK, folks. It’s the third day of our discussion of the Oscars. Today, is the Best Director fights. Remember that the conversation here is not who do you think is going to win. It’s also not which you think is the best movie (although i guess that’s somewhat debatable because a great directorial effort results in a great film), but the goal is to vote on which is the best Directorial Effort.

In addition, personally, I would like to see Christopher Nolan in this category for The Dark Knight (which apparently you all agree with me about) But, since I can’t have that:

Results are in.  Again we have a tie.  And I messed up and put one movie in only 1 fight and another in 3 times.  Oops.  I mean, in the long run, no biggie, but its annoying for me.  Anyway, here are your results:

The Reader 0 4 Slumdog Millionaire
Frost/Nixon 3 3 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Milk 2 4 Slumdog Millionaire
Frost/Nixon 3 0 The Reader
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 1 3 Slumdog Millionaire

Alright, well today, we’ll be able to get some of the results from Round 3 of the Best Picture Tournament, but it wont be until at least tomorrow when we’ll be able to begin round 4 (and likely I’ll wait a little beyond that). So, I have to provide you with something, don’t I? BTW, before I get down to the nitty gritty today, I just wanted to mention that the fights for this discussion, I’m only going to be leaving them up for 2-3 days, instead of the usual 4-5. I want to get the rankings established quickly and then fix them if you disagree, but for now, we need those rankings, so I’m going to finalize some rankings quicker.

So, that being said, today, we’ll continue our fights with regards to this year’s Oscars. We have 5 new fights for you today, this time, it’s about the boys:

Results are in, friends.  Thank you for your votes.  We had a tie in this fight, so looks like there might be a rematch in the cards:

Frost/Nixon 5 1 The Visitor
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 4 4 Milk
The Wrestler 6 1 Frost/Nixon
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 6 1 The Visitor
The Wrestler 7 1 Milk

Hey everybody.  So, the results are in from day 2 and they are as follows:

The Dark Knight 6 1 The Prestige
Memento 7 0 Following
Batman Begins 7 0 Insomnia
Following 0 6 Batman Begins

Looks like some lopsided wins in there.  I thought for sure at the end of these four days, all questions would be resolved, but as of now, there are two questions left that need answers.  take a look at the current rankings and I’ll tell you what is resolved after:

Rank   Name Wins Losses Win % Vdiff MF#
1   The Dark Knight 3 0 100% 15 13.5
2   Memento 2 1 67% 12 10.8
3   The Prestige 2 1 67% 4 9.8
4   Batman Begins 2 2 50% 5 8.9
5   Following 0 2 0% -14 4.2
6   Insomnia 0 2 0% -15 3.7

So, according to my records, Dark Knight is solidified at the top and Batman Begins is set at #4.  But there is still a question of which movie deserves #2 and which movie is the bottom of the barrel.  So, we will resolve those questions now:

Results are in and i think we have our final rankings:

Memento 5 2 The Prestige
Insomnia 3 2 Following
