The cornerstone of The Movie Fight is our massive tournaments that determine how the overall rankings are going to stand. These tournaments are the best way to quickly put movies in the approximately correct places on our rankings. Oh! you want to see all of our official rankings. Well you can do so at this page! OFFICIAL RANKINGS GALORE!
However, the old method of doing these tournaments is simply not going to work anymore. It requires waaaaaaaaay too many polls and too much data and annoyingness. I loved every second of it, but honestly, I dont have the time for it anymore. Not only that, but it was always lacking the one thing I really wanted: Discussion. I wanted to be able to talk about these fights. I wanted people to argue for their cause. Specifically, I wanted to fight for my cause. That basically never happened. So, the old method is dead. I’m sorry my friends. BUT! I think I’ve discovered a great compromise that will serve to fix everything that ailes us…
Here’s how it’s going to work… I’m going to write a paragraph or two per fight. At the end of that paragraph, my vote will be named. My vote counts for 1.1. However, everyone of my readers is also granted a vote in every fight, but yours are only worth 1. In other words, I’m the tiebreaker. So, make your voice heard. You (along with at least one other person) may be able to overturn my vote. Or, if you agree with me, but 2 fools have out voted me, you can come to my rescue. This gives me the chance to sound off, a vote to automatically be cast, and the participation that I truly want to be available to everyone. Sound good?
Addendum: there will be times when the tournament requires that I include movies that I have not seen. I haven’t seen all of the movies in the world, though I’m trying. In the meantime, there might be times I have to make a vote when I haven’t seen both movies. In this case, I’m going to give myself only .9 of a vote. That way if I get a comment from someone with conviction that has seen the movie before, then their vote will count for more.
I was going to start with the tournament that we already began, the Horror Tournament… I know its a little out of season, but everyone likes talking about scary movies, right? Its a really easy genre to comprehend. Is it scary? Are there surprises? What makes a movie a horror movie vs a thriller? These topics will all be up for debate as the champion of the 150 movie Horror movie will be decided, right here, on The Movie Fight
